LASIK Post-Op
Find out what you can expect in the days and weeks following your LASIK surgery.
Immediately Following LASIK
After your surgeon does a quick post LASIK check, you will be given protective glasses to wear and can be driven home. We recommend that, upon arriving home, you relax and take a nap for several hours with your protective glasses on. Be sure not to rub, poke or touch your eyes. If you experience irritation, use the artificial tears provided by your doctor. Also follow your doctor’s instructions on using your steroid and antibiotic eyedrops.
Use this time to rest and relax. For the first 24 hours, it best to avoid straining your eyes through reading, computer work or watching TV. You should sleep in your protective glasses for 1 week to avoid accidentally bumping your eyes.
The Day After LASIK
The day after your LASIK surgery, you will come back to the Vision Center for a quick check by the LasikPlus doctor. Continue following your doctor’s recommendations regarding eye drops, and take care to keep water, soap and shampoo out of your eyes when showering. Most patients see well enough to drive to their follow-up appointment, but if you feel uncomfortable, please ask someone to drive for you.
You may read, use the computer and watch TV, but keep your eyes well lubricated and rest them if they feel strained. Avoid strenuous activity or any activity where dust or debris could get into your eyes such as gardening or yard work. Be sure to keep sweat out of your eyes and avoid all lotions, creams and eye makeup for 7 days.
A Week After LASIK
Typically, the doctor will request that you attend a post-op appointment about 1 week after your treatment. You may resume exercise as long as you wear eye protection and avoid getting sweat in your eyes. You should, however, continue to avoid strenuous activity and contact sports as well as swimming, whirlpools and hot tubs. After a week, you may sleep without wearing your eye shields and can resume the use of lotions, creams and eye makeup.
Three Weeks After LASIK
Typically, the doctor will request that you attend a post-op appointment about 3 weeks after your treatment. Usually at that time, all activities including contact sports, swimming and even scuba diving may be resumed. You can also resume outdoor activities and gardening, but be sure to take extra protective care of your eyes.
Three Months After LASIK
In some cases, your doctor may request a 90-day post-op check. Be sure to check with your doctor at LasikPlus. At this point, your new vision will be mostly stabilized and you are free to enjoy a life of clear vision!
